#MyIGDCCool: Georgetown

We had such a fantastic time wandering around Georgetown with our friends @visitwashingtondc today. Thanks to everyone that came out today and bonus points for the amazing costumes. Special thanks to @officialgeorgetowndc for telling us about the future of Georgetown, to resident Exorcist film expert Andrew Huff for coming out and sharing his knowledge on Exorcist Day and to @tonyandjoes for the happy hour fun. On Sunday, October 30th, IGDC teamed up with Destination DC (@visitwashingtondc) for the inaugural instameet in a series we’re calling #myIGDCcool. Through this partnership, we’ll be exploring DC neighborhoods and showing off the best our town has to offer. First up–Georgetown!

Seeing as it was the day before Halloween, we knew we needed to celebrate the spookier side of this historic neighborhood. First up were the stairs made famous in the film The Exorcist. Since the event also happened on The Exorcist Day (approved by the DC Council last year) we were able to hear a little history and film facts from resident expert Andrew Huff before descending down the steps on our way.

Next up was a stop on the C&O Canal and a nice introduction to the restoration beginning on the canal from Georgetown BID’s own Maggie Downing. We’re excited to see the improvements to this historic waterway in Spring 2018.

A R C H W A Y — Captured along the C&O Canal in Washington, D.C. I headed out this way for and #igdc event on D.C.'s official #ExorcistDay. The famous steps in the Exorcist movie are located not too far from the bridge and Oct 30 is dubbed Exorcist Day by the DC Council now. I'll share the steps in a later post. #arch #archway #arches #bridge #architecture #canal #washingtondc #MyDCcool #MyIGDCcool #georgetowndc #georgetown #city #urbex #urbanexploration #urban #water

Old Stone House was a nice third stop along the route to relax in the gardens and take in the beautiful weather. Built between 1765 and 1780, this pre-Revolutionary building is not only extremely photogenic but is a quiet and calm spot in the heart of the Georgetown shopping.

Located in Georgetown, Old Stone House was constructed in 1765 and completed in 1780. It's the only pre-Revolutionary War building still standing in the District of Columbia. It was also a stop on today's #MyIGDCcool Instameet!

Last stop on the route was the waterfront and Tony and Joe’s (@tonyandjoes). With the sun out and temps pushing 80, the waterside park was a very popular place to be. We had a terrific time winding down and celebrating another successful event.
